Amanda Hocking

On many writer's forums, posters continually comment on how Amanda Hocking's name causes an explosion of interest whenever it's posted anywhere online.  Apparently this chick has a Midas touch.  And her printer at home prints real money.

I'm slightly cynical of these claims.  To be honest, I had not even heard of Amanda Hocking until I become a regular on forums such as Kindleboards.  I think that that is one thing traditionally published authors have over ebook only authors: you become a familiar sight to readers much more quickly.

So I titled this post with her name because I am a sick individual who must find out if these whisperings are true.  Do people really type in her name on Google all day, every day? I deeply apologize if you click on this blog in eager anticipation of finding out more on this mythical literary creature.

For those who are curious, I will let you know exactly how powerful "her name" is after this blog posts.  If nothing else, it would be a testament to how effective (or not) the internet is in spreading news.

  4. Lol. As of right now, nothing seems out of the ordinary. This particular post has had 5 views, and the blog itself has had 35 views. That's pretty average for this blog at this time of day.

We shall see... I was just very curious because we always talk about "getting your name out there." But is the name as important marketing genre?

    What's in a name...?

  5. Ok, we're now at a staggering 8 pages views for this post. Most of them were probably from James =p

Now, I know my blog is not like RedAdept's. But still. From the way people were talking about Amanda Hocking you would think there would be a slight increase in views. This is maybe something to keep in mind. When you are featured on blogs, it may be more effective to add key words to your title.

  6. Le sigh. I admit it. I found this blog after typing her-name-which-shall-not-be-spoken in Google.

  7. Lol. I am sorry, Raymund, for turning you into an unwitting lab rat. But at least you are a proof positive of this internet sensation!
